You Asked About: Has My Wife Had An Affair

Nancy asks…

My wife had an affair with a pastor. Should we tell his wife and church so he does not hurt others?

THE PERSON MY WIFE HAD THE AFFAIR WITH WAS AND STILL IS A PASTOR. BETTER YET, HE IS A MINISTER SPECIFICALLY TO FAMILIES. MY WIFE AND I HAVE STRUGGLED IMMENSELY WITH WHETHER TO TELL HIS WIFE AND HIS CHURCH ABOUT THE AFFAIR. WE WERE LEFT TO CLEAN UP THE MESS AND HE SIMPLY WENT ON WITH HIS LIFE AS IF NOTHING HAD HAPPENED.

Chas answers:

It is HIGHLY doubtful that this man has just done this for the first time with your wife. His position as a marriage counsellor-minister type thing will allow him to take advantage of MANY women. I’d bet anything that there are other women in the church who he has done this to.

Yeah, for sure I’d take it to the church, to the wife, to the police even because what he is doing is actually against the law as a minister to families. He will get his licensed yanked and you can sue for big bucks besides.

But FIRST, be smart about it. It will come down to your word against his, unless other women are willing to step forward. So get PROOF. Hidden video, taped conversations, anything you can get. THEN go to the authorities with it, but make copies of it too, and put a copy in a safe deposit box at the bank.

P.S. Look at it exactly the same way you would if a psychologist or doctor had an affair with a patient he was treating. It’s breach of conduct professionaly, and is against the law.
